The Greeks gave a wreath of laurels to crown the winner.
Geoffrey Chaucer referred to laurels in The Knight's Tale, circa 1385:
With laurel crowned as conqueror
There he lived in joy and honour
The quote suggests a praise but is maybe more a suggestion of laziness and lack of application. Even so, real heroes rest on their laurels... and why not, they probably deserve it.
Their magic skills and tricks make us fall into a swoon.
We love to love them but just because they win doesn't mean they have to stop trying.
